You can go kicking and screaming all the way, or you can take a deep breath and decide that you are going to take the next smallest step and move in the right direction. Personally, I like to kick and scream a bit, then take the next smallest step. It seems to satisfy my whining inner child.
I may not be the only person who thinks this. In a recent post on Flyte New Media,Rich Brooks says that Content Creation can be Painful. ( I discovered this as I was procrastinating and spinning my wheels and decided to look at other blogs as a way to do "Market Research").
After working with clients, I began to see a common pattern. Clients would get all excited about their blogs, and couldn't wait to get started. During the 'planning phase' when I actually have people commit to what Categories they want to have, or worse yet, a Topic, or Title, the games would begin. "If I do this one topic, then I can't do this one" or "I said that I was going to focus on this one segment of my market, but now I am thinking about doing something else". They would spin their wheels for weeks, and not really accomplish anything. If this sounds familiar, there is a way to handle this:
1. Make a list of all of the things that you would ever want to write posts about.
If you want to have some fun, settle back and get in touch with Why you are doing this in the first place, and How you will be as a person when you are wildly successful. What do you want to be known for? How do you want your readers and clients to think of you? Go ahead and really get into it. After all, It's your fantasy. As you are there now, thinking about how great your life is now, start writing things down. Then take your list and organize and prioritize it. And remember, use the inclusion Principle. It is never either or, but a matter of when. You can do everything that you want to, you just need to prioritize.
2. PICK ONE AND DO IT NOW!!!
Nike said it best...Just do it. Get your stuff out there, and move forward, one step at a time. You will be surprised how far a small step can really take you.
